Powered Pleasure Craft Driving License (PPCDL)

A Powered Pleasure Craft Driving License (PPCDL) is a requirement in Singapore to operate any powered watercraft (boats and jet skis). If you are wanting to experience the joys that freedom at sea brings you will need to start here. 

Typically, it takes 3 to 6 months to obtain your license but we have seen some that have gotten theirs as quickly as 3 weeks (they booked their tests in advanced and passed on their scheduled dates).

Fortunately this is a lifetime license, so you will only have to go through this arduous journey once.

Step 1 – PPCDL Course

First you will need to go through a course with any MPA approved PPCDL Course Centers you can find the most updated list here.

Step 2 – Theory Test

For the theory test you will need to book a slot with PACE here.

You will need the following items:

1. Identification Card with photo (NRIC or Passport)

2. Your PPCDL Course Certificate you received in Step 1

3. Medical Certificate/Report for Eyesight (link here)

Your theory test must be completed within 2 years of the medical certificate/report date. There is no expiry for the PPCDL Course Certificate.


Step 3 – Practical Test

The Practical test will again need to be booked with PACE here.

You may wish to attend a refresher course to get comfortable with handling the boat. We recommend attending a refresher at RSYC to get familiar with the test venue.

You will need the following items:

1. Identification Card with photo (NRIC or Passport)

2. Your Theory Test Result Slip you received in Step 2



Step 4 – Get Your License

You did it! The examiner of the Practical Test will likely go through this part with you but just in case you need to refer to something we’ve got you covered.

First you will need to go to digitalPORT@sg and select “FOR INDIVIDUAL USERS” and login using your SingPass. If you do not have a SingPass you can instead click “ONLINE FORMS”.

Then find the “LICENSE” tab and select “Application for new PPCDL/Advanced PPCDL”. Fill in the required information and you will receive your license in the mail after a few days.
